BEHIND THE BAR: Ruthann

Where are you from? And how did you end up here?
I’m from Dallas. I came to Chicago after I graduated from High School to go to college at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Weather shock!

How long have you been with Protein Bar?
Almost three weeks!

Biggest Passions?
Art…obviously! I have always loved to create, and have preferred to do it for the pleasure of others. Not that I won’t make a sale, I heart money too!

Also love to work out. There is something fulfilling about working on a project and seeing the results.

If you had to describe yourself in one word what would it be?
Snarky. I’m quiet to begin with, don’t be fooled

A goal you have achieved that you are proud of?
Travel. My husband and I have a goal of going to one new country a year. So far so good!

What’s your personal motto?
Don’t judge human reactions, that’s what we are. Human. We often forget that.

Do you have any unique talents?
I can ride bareback. I had to learn how to ride without the convenience of a saddle. That was because my Mom didn’t know. Don’t tell her

Something surprising about you?
I boxed for 10 years, from 8 to 18.

What is the scariest thing you have ever done?
Scary and the most exciting at the same time, saying yes to my husband when he asked me to marry him. I thought my heart would explode!

What is the coolest thing about your PB team?
They are all super genuine and welcoming. It is rare to find such a team as this. It can be scary to go into a brand new environment not knowing anyone, but they immediately embraced me, and that is awesome

If you could eat one PB item forever what would it be?
Fiesta bowl with tofu…or the beetbox…

If you could add one item to the PB menu what would it be?
Tabouli

If you could manage a Protein Bar anywhere in the world where would it be?
Croatia, or Dubai.

Ruthann’s LOVE List

Word—Lugubrious. Defined as an exaggerated or affected way of mourning. It is also defined as a macabre situation made humorous. Ask me for an example, I promise I’m not as weird as that makes me sound.
Magazine—Found Objects (a do it yourself magazine)
Musician—Neil Diamond and Rod Stewart have to duke this out. I’m a dork, and I embrace that.
TV Show—The Wire
Movie—Evil Dead 2
Website—A beautiful mess (another do it yourself thing)
Place in the world—I can’t pick this. It would either be in a crowded mall in Dubai full of huge families, or a quiet alleyway cafe in Paris, or on the beaches of St. Lucia with a frothy girly drink…I could keep going.
Way to spend your Saturday mornings—Working out, then getting coffee…then a nap.
Restaurant—Mixteco
Way to work out—Speed Shred, by B.J. Gaddour
Way to celebrate—Wine and delicious food. Lots of it.
